Swim Team

We're on our second week of swim team practice - this girl is happy to be back in the pool!

The Graduate

Fourth and final CJP graduation this morning. I finally did it correctly - everyone dressed appropriately, arrived early to get a good seat, didn't drop and break any graduation gifts, took lots of pics....

Halfway Through a Crazy Week

So far we've gotten through bar mitzvah tutoring, a bar mitzvah rehearsal, two days of end of grade testing, and an Israel trip meeting. Still to go - Caroline's preschool graduation, another bar mitzvah rehearsal, and another day of end of grade testing. A three day weekend can't come fast enough! Next week Ben has three additional end of grade tests but after that he'll be pretty much done for the year! The light at the end of the tunnel is getting bigger :)

Two and a half weeks until Israel???!!!! I think this is okay to say here because the kids don't read my blog - we've confirmed an extra guest for the Israel trip as of today! UNCLE MIKE!!!!! Since we didn't know till today if we could work out getting him on the trip at the last minute, we'll go ahead and keep it a surprise till he shows up to meet us at the Newark airport :)

Healthy Breakfast

I made a strawberry rhubarb pie on Sunday which was demolished in short order. I did manage to save the last piece for breakfast yesterday - best Monday morning breakfast ever! Fruit, veggies, dairy.... very well balanced ;)

Daddy Picked This One

So when a recent shipment of books came for Caroline, she went through it gleefully and then, puzzled, pulled out biographies of Abraham Lincoln and Barack Obama. "Wait a minute... I didn't pick these ones!" And Joel tried to act surprised. "Oh you didn't? Those are good ones!"

Finally Friday

Okay, I am doing horrible keeping up with the blog lately! A brief run-down of the latest news:

Caroline had a great soccer game last Sunday, scoring 2 goals. We also got her back on her bike and after having some initial difficulty remembering how to balance on it, she's now cruising around and having a lot of fun. She graduates preschool in less than two weeks!

Becca and Ben are gearing up for the end of the school year. Becca takes her first ever EOGs (end of grade tests) in math and literacy in 2 weeks. Ben has EOGs in math, literacy and science as well as a state end of course exam in social studies and Spanish (those are slightly different than EOGs and are called EOCs). I think they are both a bit stressed about all the upcoming testing.  The testing week of course coincides with the two Bar Mitzvah reshearsals and Caroline's graduation.

Joel and I decided to change our 15th anniversary trip plans - we had originally planned on a return to Aruba for a week at the end of October, but I happened to see a cheap direct flight to Paris on Priceline for only a couple hundred dollars more than the Aruba flight would have been. After a little research I realized we could rent an apartment in Paris for a week for way cheaper than the Aruba hotel we were planning to stay at. So now we have two plane tickets to Paris and an apartment booked :) Since I've been to France but never set foot in Paris and Joel has never even been to Europe, we are both excited. We may attempt to arrange a side trip to Normandy while we're there as well.

Phew

The weekend included synagogue and paintball for Ben (not at the same time), soccer for Caroline, religious school for Becca, grocery shopping, an Israel trip meeting, and a barbecue for the Israel trip families, homework and speech-writing.

As all was wrapping up Sunday night Becca spiked a fever and spent the first two days of school this week home sick with me complaining of a headache, sore neck / sore throat / sore ear. I took her to the doctor yesterday where they made sure she didn't have strep or an ear infection, but did have a swollen lymph node in her neck that was making her neck and throat and ear hurt. Since she was fever free yesterday, she went back to school this morning.

Ben had his final speech writing meeting last night with the rabbi, and seems to be well on his way in terms of Bar Mitzvah preparation. He now knows his entire Torah portion and is now working on his Haftorah portion and has a couple of prayers left to learn. He has 5 tutoring sessions, 1 Friday night service, 2 Saturday morning services, 1 Israel trip meeting and 2 rehearsals left to go! He also has to squeeze in 4 more community service hours. But I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel... just not sure if he is seeing it yet ;)
